How to play Who Am I? online
Who Am I? is the browser version of the sticky-note-on-the-forehead game, for 2 to 16 players. Everyone has a secret character that the whole table can see and they cannot. On your turn you ask one yes-or-no question and narrow it down. No paper, no tape: create a room and send your friends the link.

Create a room
Enter a name, hit “Create room” and get a code. The settings decide where the characters come from and how turns pass.

Deal the characters
Take secrets from a themed deck of 480, have players invent them for each other, or mix the two.

Ask yes/no questions
“Am I a real person?” “Am I over fifty?” “Would my mother be proud?” The table answers by majority — or a host answers for everyone, if you are playing that way.

Name yourself
Call it when you think you have it. Guesses are limited, so firing blind is expensive. The game ends when the last secret is out, or the rounds run out.
Rules, modes and table settings
Almost everything here is a lobby switch: where the characters come from, who answers the questions, who gets the next turn and how the game ends.
- A deck of 480 characters
- Themed sets: real people, film and game characters, jobs, animals, mythology. Enough not to repeat itself all evening.
- Player-written characters
- A mode where players set each other’s secrets. The funniest option for a group that knows each other well.
- Majority answers
- The whole table answers and the majority carries. Disagreements become part of the game rather than a halt.
- Host mode
- One person answers and adjudicates for everyone. Useful with children, or with a group that would rather not argue about wording.
- Turn order
- Strict rotation, “yes keeps your turn”, or no order at all — the last of which turns the game into cheerful chaos.
- Private notes
- A notepad per player: what you have asked and what it rules out. Without one, everybody loses track by the tenth question.
- Hints
- A limited resource for the hopelessly stuck. Spent one at a time, and they narrow the field rather than handing over the answer.
- End condition
- Play until the last secret is revealed, until the first correct guess, or for N rounds on points — the table decides.
Who Am I? — frequently asked questions
How many players do you need?
Between 2 and 16. Two makes a calm duel; five to ten is the familiar noisy version where questions come from everywhere at once.
Do I need to download anything or sign up?
No. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile, and a guest can create a room with no account.
Is it free?
Yes. Tokens for play time are granted daily and a short ad tops them up. A subscription removes ads and raises the player limit.
Can we play sitting in the same room?
Yes — the phone replaces the note on your forehead: you cannot see your own character and everyone else can see it on their screen. Ask and answer out loud as usual.
Is it good with children?
Yes, especially in host mode with an animals or cartoons deck. The rules explain in half a minute and there is almost nothing to read.
What if I get a character I have never heard of?
Spend a hint, or ask the table to narrow it down. The settings can restrict the deck to themes your group definitely knows.
Can we write our own characters?
Yes. In player-written mode everyone sets a secret for their neighbour, and you can mix: some from the deck, some from the table.
About Who Am I?
Who Am I? is the forehead-sticker game without the stickers: your character is visible to everyone but you, while the phone keeps track of turns, guesses and hints. It works online and around one table, and suits any group from two people to sixteen.
